My husband and I went on a weekend getaway. While visiting some of the local shops, we came across this small statue. I was drawn to it because of the way the man on the bicycle looks as if he is literally flying, without a care in the world. It reminded me of a childlike surrender to the moment. I can just hear the man saying, “Whatever, God. It’s in Your hands. I’m going to relax and enjoy the journey.” Freedom. That’s what it makes me think about. Freedom.

The truth is, there can be times when it’s not so easy to lean back, throw my hands in the air and rest in God’s faithfulness. I know He’s been faithful time and time again but, just like Peter, I get tempted to look at the winds and waves, sometimes. But when Peter put his focus back on Jesus, that’s when he was able to walk on the water, again. That’s when Peter experienced freedom, freedom from gravity, freedom from science, freedom from what made sense. If we want to experience that kind of freedom, which God has for all of us, we need to meditate His word. Here are just a few verses about freedom that I hope you’ll spend time meditating:
2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
John 8:36
If the son sets you free, you will be free, indeed.
Galatians 5:1
Stand fast, therefore, in the liberty wherewith Christ has made you free and do not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
Luke 4:18
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.
So, the next time you’re tempted to worry, doubt or fear, I hope you remember this Man on the Bike. I hope you stand, sit or ride, wherever you are, stretch out your arms and say, “God, I trust you. I’m Free.”
