Can you imagine the conversation that took place among the disciples when Peter got back in the boat after walking on water with Jesus? Usually, when you hear teachings on this story, the focus is on:
- Peter asking for an invitation to walk on the water
- Jesus telling Peter to “Come”
- Peter walking on water
- Peter taking his eyes off Jesus
- Peter beginning to sink
- Peter calling out to Jesus for help
- Peter being rescued by Jesus
Since there’s a little bit of Peter in all of us, I can imagine him getting back in the boat feeling defeated. I can just see Peter thinking, “Why couldn’t I just stay focused?” Isn’t that just like the enemy? See, his goal is to keep us focused on our mistakes so we won’t rejoice over our miracles. Don’t fall for his tricks.
Yes, Peter took his eyes off Jesus. But of all the disciples…
Peter was also the only one who had the faith to ask for an invitation
Peter was the only one who had enough trust to step out of the boat!
Peter was the only one who left his comfort zone.
Peter was the only one who stood, literally, on the word of Jesus.
And Peter was the only one who walked on water TWICE!
Made some mistakes? Who hasn’t? But instead of meditating the mistakes, learn from them and do better. See, God can take every mistake you’ve ever made and still use it for good. Think of the all the lessons we’ve learned from Peter’s story. So, the next time you make a mistake, don’t count yourself out or beat yourself up. Trust God to do with your mistake the same thing He did with Peter’s. God is the Only One who can take your mistake and turn it into a miracle.
Keep the Faith, LifeSpeakers!
