If you’ve ever wondered, “God, what am I doing?” This is for you. Ever play a game called Connect the Dots? Here’s how you play:

There’s a seemingly random assortment of numbered dots on a sheet of paper. Your job is to, with pen or pencil, draw a line from one numbered dot to the next, following the path of the dots in consecutive order. Here’s the challenging part, dot #4 is in the upper right-hand corner of the page while #5 is in the lower left-hand corner, and while your initial lines seemed to make sense before, now you’re moving in the opposite direction of the picture you thought you were drawing.

In real life, it can play out like this:

It looked like the business was going to take off, but there was a detour. You thought you’d chosen the right career path, but life required a pivot. There was a plan to go back to work but then, a diagnosis. The adult kids were fine but, then they weren’t. So, they needed you more. Aging parents required a change in plans. 

Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in. Galatians 6:9 AMP

These unexpected twists, turns, re-routing exercises can make you feel like you’ve lost your way. But keep moving. Keep moving your pencil from dot #7 to #8, no matter where #8 is on the page. Keep moving from dot #65 to #66, even when it doesn’t make sense to you. Keep moving.

See, your limited vantage point only allows you to see your actions from one dot to the next but, God has a completed view of the entire picture. If you keep obeying, keep moving according to His instructions, you’ll get to the final dot and realize, God set you up to receive everything your heart desired before the game began. So the next time you’re asking, “God, what am I doing?”, I hope you’ll remember this blogpost and know that the answer to your question is “You’re connecting the dots.”
