Stop Looking Among the Dead

This morning I was awakened by the voice of someone on the radio reading Luke 24:5. 

Read Luke 24:1-6. It talks about how the angels questioned the women who went to the tomb in search of Jesus after His resurrection. Upon their arrival, the women were greeted by an angel who simply asked, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?” See, the women were planning to care for Jesus’ corpse but, the tomb was empty. (Insert praise break here. I’ll wait.)

It made me wonder: What are some ways that we “seek the living among the dead”?

Consider these three:

We seek the living among the dead when…

-we refuse to surrender old mindsets and perspectives

​Romans 12:2 – “be transformed by renewing our minds”

-we reflect on the past with more enthusiasm, than we prepare for the future

​Philippians 3:13 – “forget the things that are behind and reach for what’s ahead”

-we expect new results from the same old, familiar behavior patterns

​Ephesians 4:22  – “put off your former conduct…put on the new man”

This is important to note because sometimes, just because God “made a way” using certain people, situations, resources, etc., for us before, doesn’t mean He’ll use those same methods to answer our prayers, again. The truth is, He probably won’t. God doesn’t like to be “boxed in” so He remains unpredictable. This is necessary so that you depend on HIM and His word, not on your knowledge or memory of how things worked last time. God has more than 10,000,000,000 ways to prove Himself strong on your behalf. There’s no limit to what He can do for you, in you or through you. He is GOD. So, stop looking back.

Thankfully, that tomb wasn’t Jesus’ last stop on the journey to victory. And wherever you are in your life journey, right now? It’s not your destination, either. If we’re going to live the abundant life God has for all of us, it requires that all of us stop looking for the living among the dead.
